NOTES FROM NORMA

Well! Do we have news!!  SOMEONE STOLE OUR CABBAGE! We have three brand new
planters out front, and someone stole one of the cabbage plants!  Can you believe that?  I wonder if
  they were hungry, hmm!!!
This month, October, has really been sad.  We
lost two more landmarks.  Betty Clayton will
probably be writing about them soon for the quarterly.  The newspaper headlines said "The End of
an Era."  The 50 year-old high school gym at Lafe was torn down.  All efforts to save it were futile.
Before that, Ely-Walker Garment Factory building was demolished to make way for a parking lot.
The factory was built in 1938, and employed several hundred women at a time when jobs were
  sorely needed.
Also, two 85-year olds are moving in with or relocating near family.  They are my brother and
wife and close friend, Joy O'Connor.  All of this nearly breaks my heart.  But as the saying goes,
time changes everything.  However, before it is lost forever, you need to write your story to
preserve your family history for future generations.
Don't forget we have 2010 calendars for sale.  These calendars feature old Greene County
Churches.  Also, recipes are needed for the cookbook.  If all our members would send a few
recipes, we would have a great cookbook.  The calendars and cookbooks are one way that we
have to raise money and awareness for our society.  Concerning finances, if you haven't renewed
your membership, please do so soon.  We really appreciate your donations.
If you went to school at Stanford or know someone who did, we need copies of the high school
graduate composites.  The Stanford composites are from the years 1941 to the 1990s.  Actually,
we are looking for composites of any school.  It would be nice to have them available for visitors
  to see.
You are a great group of members and volunteers.  Thank you for all you have done.
