| October Program Meeting Author and living historian Bryce A. Chandler will appear in costume Thursday, October 9th, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall (located on the corner of South 7th Street and West Court Street). Chandler will sign his new book and talk about the life of a drummer boy from the Civil War, telling from the drummer's own view what life was like during the war of the 1860's. Bring the kids and listen to the heart rending sound of the historical six-hole fife and the inspiring cadence of his replica snare-drum. "It is hard to imagine how a boy of his tender years can capture the emotions of that time era with such feeling and passion," said Tina Sansone, Southeast director of the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors. Bryce will be available for a question/answer session and to sign his new book, The Orphan and the Beaten Drum, a young adult historical fiction uniquely written to present the Southern perspective of the War Between the States. With Bryce's book, follow young Roger Mills as he struggles between altruistic patriotism and brotherly love. Joining the Sixth Alabama Infantry, Roger beats the Southern cadence on the red battlegrounds of Virginia, and his sister, as Daughter of the Regiment, fights the war of the wounded in the regimental field hospital. Will the horror of war refine their love for God and each other, or will it only darken their spiritual walk and tear them slowly apart? Also available will be Bryce's interactive adventure of the war, A Courier for Stonewall, a book where "You are the Star!" Bryce is a drummer boy re-enactor, historian, and author; He has won the Arkansas Sons of Confederate Veterans Essay Contest three out of four years since 2004, and lives with his family outside Pocahontas. To find out how you can invite Bryce to your school, church, or group, visit www.SouthernCadencePress.com. |
